The South Coast Environment Centre's Open Orchard project aims to get a diverse range of old varieties of healthy heritage fruit trees back into Southland communities. They aim to preserve varieties, skills and provide access to healthy locally grown food. To date more than 7,000 fruit trees have been planted in Southland, with over 80 varieties identified.
