How Kai Rescue Nelson stays on the road to food rescue resilience with Rothbury Insurance

THE ISSUE

Insurance can be challenging and expensive, especially for a not-for-profit pouring all they can into redistributing unused food that is good to eat straight to 60+ food recipient organisations in the Nelson Tasman community. There’s little time for admin, as the busy operation has their hands full helping the Nelson Tasman community live more sustainably and reduce its impact on the environment. Kai Rescue through an environment centre comes with a unique set of workspace, fleet, and logistical needs. Typically, insurance companies apply a one size fits all approach which can fall short in addressing specific needs, and can mean a higher uptake cost, which non-for-profits don’t have the budget for.

THE SOLUTION

Rothbury Insurance genuinely understood what we wanted, and the cover we actually needed. They took real interest in ensuring we had the right cover for the right operations. Rather than a one size fits all package that might not be the best fit, they steered away from a standardised approach and offered a tailored solution. We dealt with one contact person for all the different insurance types, which saved us a lot of time. A bespoke package met our needs including property insurance, public liability, professional indemnity, and motor vehicle cover for a fleet of three vehicles and a trailer.” - Anton Drazevic, CEO at Nelson Environment Centre.

RESULTS

“We have peace of mind knowing that we’re fully covered specifically where we need it, and aren’t tied into a bulky package that isn’t a good fit for us. Also, we now save approximately $1,000 per year in insurance costs across the organisation, as Rothbury Insurance was so competitive in the market. This saving can be channeled elsewhere straight back into kai rescue to achieve our core mission. It’s been simple to process claims, and if Mark isn’t available, a local broker gets in touch with us promptly, so the service level we get is consistently good”, Anton adds.
